For online application of passport, one needs to book an appointment in the nearest PSK (Passport Seva Kendra) by logging in to the PSP website (www.passport india.gov.in). Following steps need to be followed:
For offline application of passport, one can download and print passport form, and then after filling submit at passport collection centre. The form can also be bought from the market and submitted at the centre.
Certain citizens like minors, handicapped and senior citizens can get their work done without appointment as walk-in. Even in this case, one needs to submit the form online and generate ARN which enables users for submitting form without appointment.
After the approval of Union Cabinet2007, a new system for issuance of passport has been introduced in India under Passport Seva Project. The project has focus on hassle free issuance of passports, dispatch, online linkage with police department for verification and printing of passports. This system has made passport issuance hassle free. It needs to be noted that there are 77 PSK in India for issuance/ renewal of passports, which also issue emergency certificates and certificate of identity along with passports.
