UIDAI issues Aadhaar Card, which is an essential document for proof of address and identity. It contains a 12-digit identification number which is unique to individuals. Residents of India and NRIs can apply for this document. The objective of Aadhaar is to equip citizens with a unique identity and a digital platform. This aims to authenticate demographic and biometric information of the card holder. The government has taken efforts to make it easier for everyone and anyone to apply for Aadhaar.
There is a huge network of enrolment centres throughout the country. A person can download the enrolment form online and visit the enrolment centre to drop the Aadhaar application. To apply for this Card, the person has to furnish a few documents such as proof of identity, address, birth date and age. However, if an individual does not have these documents, he/she can still apply for Aadhaar without documents. UIDAI has laid down a set of rules and a new process in such a case.
An applicant may not have proof of address, age, or identity. But people who lack these documents can still enrol for Aadhaar and apply for it at an enrolment centre. For this, the applicant will require help of a pre-designated ‘Introducer’. Registrar and Regional offices authorize, identity, and notice an Introducer. He/she has the authority to introduce the applicant who does not have the documents to apply for an Aadhaar Card.
Like discussed above, an Introducer is authorized by a Regional or Registrar office. He/she has to be over 18 years of age. This person should not have any criminal record. Examples of Introducers are Registrar’s employees, healthcare workers, postmen, local NGO representatives, teachers, Anganwadi workers, doctors, or elected local body members.
Below-mentioned are the responsibilities of an Introducer:
Thus, if an individual does not have the required documents for an Aadhaar Card application, then with help of an authorized Introducer, the person can still go and apply for this document. But, if a person has the necessary documents for the application, he/she cannot take the help of an Introducer for the procedure.
